Have you ever been on a long winding road? When I went to Africa, we went from the top of the mountain, down into the valley, on a long winding road. It was scary and I had anxiety every time. The driver went fast, and since the roads are small, we had to endure some tight spots. When there are no rules it can be very dangerous. Sometimes in marriage you can feel like you are on a long and winding road going down a mountain. It can definitely feel like you are out of control.
Out Of Control
If on this path of life you find yourself in a marriage that is out of control, you may be heading off a cliff. Sometimes in marriages you see adultery, drug abuse, physical abuse, or even anger that has turned into rage. When a marriage gets out of order, and out of the will of God, things can happen that no one ever saw coming. Carnality can lead to such extremes.
Carnality is flesh on the throne. It is wanting what you want no matter who it hurts, and who or what it destroys in the process. When someone is carnal in a marriage, they will go to any measure to have that pleasure, what ever that may be. When we push God out of our lives and say we need this or that, no matter the cost, we are headed for a full on collision with disaster.
Driving on a road that is in a neighborhood is not to difficult. You may get up to 20 miles per hour. If you follow the speed limit sign, you can’t do a whole lot of damage if something happens. Now get on the highway, where speeds exceed 70 miles per hour in some places and disaster could be just around the corner. At these speeds you can do a lot of damage if you get out of control. Don’t follow the rules, and you could lose your life.
Look at marriage in the same way as driving on the interstate while losing control, and you are looking at a disaster waiting to happen. The path that you are on can be avoided, if you slow down, get control back, and follow the rules of the road. We have a book that helps us with our marriages. If we read and follow it we will have good success! The bible has all of the answers we need for our marriage to stay on the right path!
What path is your marriage on? One takes you places safely, with rules, and guard rails. Another one takes you on a crazy ride, leading you on a winding mountain that leads you right over a cliff. Is carnality taking over in areas of your marriage? If you answered yes, you need to make a u-turn. Pray and ask for guidance. Get back on the road of safety, and follow the path that God has for you and your spouse.
When you are Spirit led you are following the word of God and the Spirit of God. You pray, read the word, and seek direction from the Lord. The path you are on is every indication of where your heart truly is. If you are doing things outside of what God would have you do in marriage, you are going down a dangerous path. When you are Spirit led you will follow the path of righteousness! You and your spouse shun evil and cling to that which is good. You can turn around today and see your marriage restored!
Our prayer for you this week is that you take an honest look at where you are headed. Are you looking ahead to see where you are going or are you distracted by things that draw your eyes away from the road? We are praying that you get realigned with Gods word, prayer and His purpose for your marriage. God can restore and help you back to the right path of righteousness!!
Monday: Romans 8:13 says, “For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.” Crucify your flesh daily and you can live! Your marriage needs the same attention as you give your personal walk. Get rid of everything that lifts up flesh.
Tuesday: 1 Corinthians 6:18 says, “Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.” Pray over this scripture and make sure your marriage isn’t out of control.
Wednesday: Romans 8:6 says, “For to be carnally minded [is] death; but to be spiritually minded [is] life and peace.” Carnality kills a marriage, so pray to be spiritually minded so you can have life and peace.
Thursday: 1 Peter 5:8 says, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” Pray that you are sober and obey the word that you don’t fall prey to the lies of the enemy. Your marriage depends on it!
Friday: Ephesians 6:12 says, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places].” Know the enemy you face, read the word of God and stand on and speak the word! You aren’t fighting your spouse, you are fighting an enemy you cannot see.
Saturday: Romans 6:16 says, “Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?” Righteousness comes from obeying the word and living right! You can always repent and make a u-turn.
Sunday: Galatians 5:16 says, “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” Pray the Lord help you to walk in the Spirit!! This will help you to stay on the right path in your marriage and life!
