This is the third part in our series about Host, Hostess, or Guest. We have discussed how a Host/Hostess and a guest don’t work very well. They can stay married, but will have hurt feelings, and strife if they don’t communicate and work on changing their behavior. In that type of relationship it’s a person who has a forethought of what the other needs and a person who takes all of the benefits from the one who is giving. In the Guest and Guest model, you have two who take and its disastrous! Now we will discuss the right model!
When looking at your marriage, you want to see a man and woman who both look to serve the other. This is the right model, a Host and a Hostess! This couple will be blessed for years to come! They have learned to think, prepare, and act on fulfilling the needs of the other spouse. When a Host and Hostess are married, they are being an example of what the church should look like. Making things special, memorable, and putting in the extra effort to win your spouse over and over again!
The host is the husband, he is to protect, provide, and love his wife. He is to serve her and meet her needs. The husband should love his wife like Christ loves the church that He gave himself for it. You see, Jesus is always praying for His bride, He wants to heal her, provide for her, to show her mercy and grace, His purpose is to love and serve her. If the husband is a follower of Christ he will example the attributes of Christ to his wife.
The hostess is the wife, she is to respect, honor, and take care of her husband. She is to serve him and meet his needs, to be pure, and wholesome. The wife should be a help meet to her husband and be ready to lay down her plan to help with his. You see, the church, the Bride of Christ, is to always be praying, honoring and taking care of the church, his people. She serves and gives her all, and makes herself ready to be a help meet. If the wife is a follower of Christ she will example the attributes of Christ to her husband.
How It Works For Him
In marriage a husband will not just enjoy the benefits of a good, godly, and serving wife, but he will be reciprocal to her. He will desire to please her, to shower her with love, and show her compassion. The husband will be the head and lead his wife with a gentleness and strength in spiritual matters. He will read the word, pray, and fast for their marriage and family. Her husband will be like a Host, who is looking to take care of his bride.
How It Works For Her
In marriage a wife will not just take and enjoy a host husband that meets her needs, but will be passionate about meeting his. She will desire to please her husband, to have a place for him to come home to that is clean and inviting. Her heart will be submissive, loving, respectful, and looking for ways to serve and adore him. Loving to follow with grace and peace, looking to him to guide her in spiritual matters. She will read the word, pray, and fast for their marriage and family. His wife will be like a Hostess, who is always looking for ways to take care of her bridegroom.
Yes, this may seem far fetched in today’s society of, “I’m in charge,” “serve me,” and, “what can I get.” Reality is we live in a fallen world and we live in a fleshly body. We are selfish by nature, and like to be served, taken care of, and have our needs met. Is it possible to even have a marriage like described above? Yes. You can have this kind of relationship, and it takes one special ingredient. Work. Marriage is hard work, but the pay is absolutely amazing! It won’t happen overnight, and it has to be maintained, but it is possible to have a Host/Hostess marriage!! Start with God in the middle and first in every area, and work your way down from there, and you too can have a happily ever married!
Our prayer for you is to start taking steps to move towards a Host and Hostess marriage. Pray God helps you and shows you where you need to move some things around, where you may need to cut somethings, and where you need to throw out hindrances in your life. Humbling yourself and learning to ask, “How can I help you?” Showing love and compassion and really listening to your spouses needs. Learning to communicate in a way that is pleasing to God.
